ON VACATION is a one-of-a-kind retail store that completely reinvents itself every 4–8 weeks — from merchandise and store design to floor plan and fixtures. Part magazine, part gallery, ON VACATION explores new themes, trends, and issues, treating its products like content.
The name drives the heart of the concept.
A vacation is time set aside — from work, from routine, from the everyday — to rest and explore, to find your way. ON VACATION is about these times and places that are in between.
“Places in between” became the mantra.
ON VACATION is evocative, experimental, storied and celebrated, and always inspiring.
The logo was inspired by the paragraph sign, which is called a pilcrow. The pilcrow is used to mark a new paragraph in a long piece of copy. Orginally it was used to mark a new train of thought, before visually distinct paragraphs were commonplace.
The color palette was sampled from frontiers and borderlands, thresholds and points of departure: aurora borealis, the green flash, ultraviolet, twilight, absinthe. Light grey provides atmosphere, a background of light and space.
